About Fig & Honey
Hi there!
Emma and Laura are an art- and food-loving couple based in Paris, France. You can learn more about us individually below. Fig & Honey is a mix of culinary styles inspired by our own family heritage as well as our travels and love of trying new things. You'll notice there are no photos, and that is because Laura has created original illustrations for each and every illustration. We also encourage you to check out the Community page to find recipes submitted by guest chefs, and of course to submit your own recipes! We are thrilled to join our talents into this creative project together, and if you are still reading this we are so grateful to have you along for the ride.
Meet Emma
Hey y'all! I'm Emma, aka fig. I am by no means a professional chef, but I love food the way I imagine normal people love their children, and I am so happy to share that love with you. I originally hail from the DC area, lived in NYC a while, spent a year in Lyon (gastronomical capital of France!), and now I call Paris home with my lovely partner Laur.

My dad's side of the family is Italian (like really, really Italian - not spaghetti & meatballs Italian-American), so meal time was always very important growing up. In fact, about 87% of the conversation at any family gathering revolves around what we ate, what we are currently eating, and what we plan to eat. But most of all, food has always been a way to show the people you love how much you care.

The recipes on this blog are inspired by a number of sources, from family recipes and personal inventions to adaptations from recipes I've found in cookbooks or on other food blogs. I'm not very exact in the kitchen and I usually cook for 2, using whatever I have on hand and adjusting as I taste. You should interpret my recipes accordingly (with a grain of salt–pardon the pun), more as a guideline than a precise procedure. I try to add notes about adjusting ingredients for different group sizes and flavor preferences, as well as providing ingredient conversions in cups/oz, but the only measurement tool I have in my little Parisian kitchen is a metric scale. Please be patient with me as I figure out how to translate recipes from my head to the blog, but definitely feel free to send me a note if things didn't go well so I can tweak the recipe for others!
Meet Laura
Hey there, I’m Laura (or Laur), and I am the illustrator for Fig & Honey food blog. I’m just here living this unreal dream of studying art in Paris with my better half who happens to be an incredible chef. I’m definitely not living that “starving artist” life while with her.
My culinary history is an interesting one as my dad’s side of the family is Italian, but I grew up in south Mississippi; so my repertoire is a fun combination of some Italian, seafood, meats and some southern comfort meals. I by no means consider myself chef, but I do love to cook when I can and play the role of Emma’s sous-chef.

Food has always been an important aspect of my life; from the time I was born until I was 8 or 9 years old, my Italian grandfather lived with my family — so a lot of my earliest memories involve him in the kitchen cooking for a small family meal or a HUGE gathering. He showed his love through food (just like Emma), and cooking was his art. He was also a key person in my childhood who encouraged me to pursue my creative endeavors, and it turned out to be that making art was my form of showing love. So, in a way, this blog feels like a natural and beautiful intersection of these qualities.
